"I think most of us on this list feel that longterm antibiotics are helping, if not curing. In the past year I have decided to try some experimental things to see if I can get well and off antibiotics. Eight months of high dose Lyme appropriate antibiotics did not help at all, but did cause serious longterm tendon problems that I never had before.

Six months of Zadaxin or thymosin alpha did not help, and I now suspect that if the underlying problem is chronic inflammation caused by the infection, then Zadaxin will only further reve up the inflammation. If the disease were a virus such as hepatitis Zadaxin might be useful. It is interesting that Dr. Marshall says that the active hormone 1,25 D is elevated in sarcoidosis, looks like it is elevated in chronic Lyme but in HCV and AIDS it is almost non-existant. This would mean Zadaxin is good for viruses but bad for CWD bacteria.

I tried Dr. Shoemaker's protocol and did get some relief, but I suspect my inflammatory problem with my tendons is not affected by the Questran. I appreciate that Dr. Shoemaker is looking outside the box for what is really going on in chronic Lyme.

Meanwhile in this red letter year I came across Dr. Marshall's research, or it found me. I was at first put off by his saying this is a Th 1 disease when all the cfs experts say it is Th 2 - my reason for trying Zadaxin in the first place. But with more insight into which cytokines are elevated in chronic Lyme I decided the Marshall idea made sense and was relatively safe - certainly safer than massive doses of antibiotics for years - been there, done that.

I am now on week 23 of Benicar with 100 mg of minocycline every other day and just added Zithromax at about 65 mg a week - cut the 250 pill in fourths. I have also added Quercetin at 500 mg tid along with the Benicar 40 mg tid. This addition alone has worked wonders. I feel so much better esp the tendon problem which has been unrelenting.

It is mindboggling to me that such low dose antibiotics could do anything. (I was taking 500 mg Zithro a day for years, just to remain stable and would relapse in one month without it.) But the combo of Benicar to reduce IFN gamma and the low dose antibiotic to help the immune system attack the bacteria as it is freed from the cells seems to work.

If the MP doesn't work I will probably resign myself to being an invalid for the rest of my life, but right now I am putting on my dark glasses, and long sleeved shirt to go shopping."
