Q: Scott, could you elaborate on your treatment prior to starting Benicar?

A: PJ?.I?ve had borreliosis for 3 plus years now and I?ve been treating it for a little over 1.5 years?my symptoms began subtle and slowly?I thought I had MS.

My first symptoms were mainly neurological?tinnitus, cognitive problems, insomnia, dizziness, hert rhythm problems?however, I also had a frozen shoulder, and a kidney stone (ouch) early in my infection. I wondered how the kidney stone was related and now I know?.ie, the Vitamin D homeostasis dysfunction described by Marshall.

My treatment has been very comprehensive including conventional antibiotics regimens of?doxy, metronidazole, amoxicillin, clarithromycin, clindamycin?etc?.and many alternative or complimentary therapies.

I quickly realized that this was not a normal infection and I needed to investigate the pathogenesis of this disease so I could design a better therapy.

I?ve investigated many alternative therapies and I?ve tried practically all of them to see what would work. Some helped but none of them would resolve this inflammatory disorder that I knew I was suffering with.

My investigation into the pathogenesis of this disease led me to appreciate the benefits of low-dose abx, so I was taking low-dose doxy for the past several months?I now prefer minocycline?which I?m taking now at 100mg sid.

I have a strong immunology background and I know how to modulate the immune system pretty well. I could reduce the inflammation using many regimens?conventional and alternative?however, I was not able to stop it until I began Benicar therapy. This is why I am so enthusiastic about this treatment regimen.

Q: Also, could you tell us which symptoms are clearing in the past 9 days?

A: Well, it?s 11 days now and I can joyfully report that all of my borreliosis symptoms have dramatically improved including my neuro, fibro, ortho, psycho?etc? It?s been a real blessing for me?and I believe it will for others too.

Please note and remember that I was lightly infected compared to many and my comprehensive therapy was helping resolve my illness?I was probably 80-85 % recovered prior to Benicar therapy. Benicar shattered the recovery ceiling that I seemed to be under?so I believe now that I?m 90-95% recovered?a dramatic improvement in just 11 days. I don?t expect severe cases of borreliosis to respond as well as I have?however, I do believe that Marshall?s protocol will significantly accelerate the remission curve and improve the remission rate.

One real blessing is my improved sleep?I?m sleeping better now than I have in 3 years?like I used to when I was healthy.

Q: Do you have some concern that the Benicar could be acting much like a steroid so that you could be feeling well, but in the long run causing serious harm to yourself?

A: No, quite the contrary?.I understand that Benicar actually enhances the immune system, allowing it to be more efficient at killing borrelia. This is because Benicar likely helps shift the immune system out of the dysfunctional inflammatory cascade into an immunity mode. Whereas, corticosteroids extinguish the inflammatory cascade, we know they also suppresses the immune response. This is the beauty of Benicar?the anti-inflammatory benefits of corticosteroids but with immuno-enhancing benefits as well.

Q: What is your take on the concept that borrelia produces biotoxins which are not cleared from the cells even after the bacteria are dead?

A: I?ve studied this area very thoroughly. If you look at my report on the pathogenesis you?ll see how important the bacterial lipoproteins are in triggering the toll-like receptors of the innate and acquired immune systems. Both of these systems activate NF-kappa B and thus the expression of cytokines promoting the Th1 inflammatory cascade.
