Seuraavista osoitteista löytyy mielenkiintoista tietoa uusista hoitomuodoista esim. MS-tautiin ja infektiotauteihin:

Synteettinen myeliinipohjainen proteiini (MS-taudissa tapahtuu mm. myeliinikatoa). Hoidon kehittäjä on hoitanut tuotteella vaimonsa sairautta menestyksekkäästi (1 injektio kerran puolessa vuodessa). Myeliinikatoa on todettu myös useilla borrelioosia sairastavilla.

The visionary who started this company wanted to treat his wife who had severe nonremitting MS. She is currently doing great. MBP8298 is synthetic myelin basic protein. This protein is the coating around nerves which is attacked in multiple sclerosis. Injecting synthetic MBP supersaturates the body with MBP and causes the inflamatory attack on nerve lining to stop. Patients with primary and secondary MS have experienced remission given one injection every six months. This product is in Phase II trials.

Valmisteella pyritään estämään bakteerien resistenssi:

Phages are fascinating. This company is working on using them in multiples to prevent development of bacterial resistance. If you want to read the history of phages check out their website for some great articles. I asked if phages could be used against cell wall deficient or intracellular bacteria. The answer was, "No."

GLSI is currently developing phage products for the treatment of E. coli O157:H7 infection. The next new products developed will be as treatments for Campylobacter and Salmonella, while vaccine development is further out on the timeline.

Uusi antibiootti kehitteillä:

They are developing an antibiotic that uses a fatty acid synthesis pathway. This is unique. Affininium is partnering with Pfizer to develop this new antibiotic. Affinium is using a computer program (Galapagos) to identify products that target bacteria and viruses. They expect to complete phase II trials on their first product by 2006.

Infectious Disease Programs, examples:
· Galapagos Programs ? Affinium has intellectual property, high resolution target structures, and unique chemistry to hit staphylococci. Features of the program include:
- Excellent antibacterial activity (MICs <0.006 µg/ml) against staphylococci including CoNS, MRSA, VISA, and VRSA;
- Existing compounds are orally available, with IV to oral switch potential;
- Low frequency of resistance, significant post antibiotic effect, and no antagonism with other commercially available antibiotics;
- Compounds have demonstrated in vivo oral efficacy;
- PK data gathered on >100 individual compounds from multiple species;
- No significant toxicity observed; and
- Potential for multiple generations of products by increasing spectrum of activity and additional indications.

Vasta-aineisiin pohjautuva hoito:

AviGenics is developing a new class of antibody-based therapeutics, Human Polyclonal Antibodies (Hu-PAb). It is generally believed that HuPAbs, as a class, may offer significant advantages over monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) which are in routine use to treat various diseases. These polyclonal antibodies are developed in chickens instead of mice. This results in an 80% reduction in cost of production and means that the product can be rapidly approved as chickens are closer to humans than mice and vaccines are already produced in chicken eggs. Rapid FDA approval is possible. Polycolonal means multiple targets as opposed to monoclonal = one. A male chicken is given one antibody, the female chicken another. The baby hen is then polyclonal and her eggs all contain the polyclonal antibodies for at least one year.

Inimex medicines selectively activate elements of host innate immunity to combat infection. By enhancing innate immunity rather than acting directly against bacteria, these compounds will not promote microbial resistance.
