My First Lyme Doctor
Eighteen years ago, my first Lyme doctor took one look at me and knew if I didn?t get help soon I would die.
My first Lyme doctor, bewildered and confused about my condition, hit the books, took to the streets, and knocked down doors to try and find someone who could help me.
My first Lyme doctor cared deeply about me and never doubted what I said, even when it sounded bizarre at times.
My first Lyme doctor was determined to save me when everyone else wrote me off as crazy and/or lazy.
My first Lyme doctor made sure I had a place to live, nourishing food, and medicine to ease my suffering.
My first Lyme doctor made great strides to get other people with Lyme disease the help they required and pushed politicians until they declared May to be Lyme Disease Awareness Month.
My first Lyme doctor, seven years into the struggle, was misdiagnosed with a stress related stomach ache and was told antacids would cure the problem.
My first Lyme doctor died six months later from stomach cancer because others wouldn?t listen and didn?t care.
My first Lyme doctor didn?t have a medical degree but she managed to learn about Lyme disease and she shared her knowledge with me.
My first Lyme doctor was my mother.
No one can take her place in my heart, however, there are a few dedicated Lyme doctors out there today who, I am honored to say, would place a close second.
Thanks to all the LLMD's for helping so many of us who need you.
(LLMD = Lyme literate medical doctor)
